The archeological museum, was founded by the town’s intelligentsia. The building was created by Professor Antonio Di Vita and the architect Vincenzo Cabianca. From the centre of Ragusa, with the striking sights of the Piazza San Giovanni and the church of Badia one walks down more than 220 steps towards Ragusa Ibla which is the other part of the town in the very heart of the baroque.
There are lots of stories about this huge church which was destroyed and re-built by 25h. October 1739 to the design of the architect Rosario Gagliardi.
In Ragusa Ibla a few paces from the cathedral of San Giorgio is the restaurant of “Il Barocco” housed in an palace of the nobility of architectural interest. There is an old manger for horses dating from the end of the seventeenth century. In every corner there are the atmosphere, the colours and odours of the life of its noble predecessors.
The Cabibbo brothers with many years experience as restaurateurs have elaborated special dishes maintaining faithfully the aromas and ingredients of the old baroque age.
They had the idea of creating an hotel to accommodate the many clients of the restaurant. So a hotel was constructed out of a building dating to the end of the eighteenth century which had been in use as a carpenter’s workshop!
